Steamboat Lake
Nestled at the base of majestic Hahn’s Peak in northern Colorado, Steamboat Lake offers breathtaking scenery and plenty of excellent recreational opportunities. Steamboat Lake is a park for all seasons and is therefore one of the most popular areas in the state. The surrounding majestic peaks, lush green valleys and colorful alpine wildflowers make the park picturesque year-round. Enjoy the surroundings of beautiful aspen and Lodgepole pine forests sprinkled with sagebrush and willow. Keep an eye out for local wildlife! It is common to catch a glimpse of mule deer and red fox as well as many species of shorebirds including Sandhill cranes that nest in the wetland areas nearby.

During the summer season, camping at Steamboat Lake State Park is a popular option among travelers. Premier fishing, and boating are also available along with a swim beach and full-service marina. Water-skiing, sailboarding and personal watercraft are all permitted on the lake. The lake is a beautiful recreation area for picnics and day trips, and is close by other beautiful areas like Pearl Lake State Park and Hahn’s Peak Lake. Remember that registration is required for all power boats and sail boats operating on Colorado waters. Non-registered vessels such as canoes and kayaks must be identified with the owner’s name and address legibly marked on the vessel.
In the winter season, the area transforms into a cold-weather paradise, averaging over 300 inches of annual snowfall with 140 miles of snowmobiling trails, ice fishing and cross-country skiing on the parks network of non-motorized ski trails and marked snowshoe routes. Ski trails are generally groomed on Saturday mornings and soon after each large snowfall. Ice fishermen have plenty of fun during winter months. Before going out onto any frozen lake, pond or river, be familiar with ice conditions and any posted warning signs to avoid serious injury from falling through thin ice. The Visitor Center and the road to the Dutch Hill Marina parking lot remain open throughout the winter.
