Telemark World Cup

Steamboat Springs Colorado will be the location of the first of two series of FIS Telemark World Cup races this February 21st- 23rd, hosted by the Winter Sports Club. It is estimated that approximately 65 racers from Europe, Japan and North America will compete in these races, a stop on the World Cup circuit which also includes France, Norway, Spain and Austria. Keystone Resort and the Town of Silverthorne will be the location for the second series of races which will be held Thursday, Feb. 25 through Sunday, Feb. 28.

The U.S. has hosted several World Cup events in the past, but this is the first time in Colorado. “It is a great advantage for our team members to be able to race on slopes that they are familiar with and a great way to expose racers from around the world to the great skiing and facilities that Colorado has to offer,” said Tory Hauser, Events Director for the U.S. Telemark Ski Association.

Series 1 in Steamboat Springs: February 21 – 23

The events will include Sprint Classic races on the 21st and 22nd at Howelsen Hill followed by a Telemark GS on the 23rd at Mt. Werner. U.S. Team Members Lorin Paley, Ben Paley, Erika Walters, Jeffrey Gay, Ken Recker, Charlie Dresen, Shane Anderson, Madi McKinstry and Elizabeth Klemer will have the “home mountain” advantage racing in Steamboat Springs. At age 14, team member Zoe Taylor is too young to race at the World Cup level, but will be cheering her teammates on.

Series 2 in Keystone & Silverthorne: February 25 – 28

The Classic race will be held on both the 25th and 26th with Telemark GS races held on the following two days. Silverthorne is the home town of Drew Hauser, who was crowned the Junior World Champion last season. Hauser is looking forward to competing at Keystone in front of a home town crowd and sharing his town with the field of international competitors.
