Canoe with the Zoo!

Cooling off in the Yampa riverCanoe with the Zoo will offer river trips designed for families and wildlife enthusiasts as well as canoe trips that cater to adults. Participants in the family trips will explore the river’s geology, history and ecology. Your Denver Zoo educator will share wildlife stories, animal specimens, and guide hands-on activities for kids of all ages. We’ll camp along the way and take time out for swimming in hidden pools and hiking canyon trails.

Family canoe trips planned for this year:

  • Yampa River – June 4-6, for participants age 6 and up
  • North Platte River - June 25-27, for participants age 6 and up
  • Green River 5-day trip – June 30-July 4, for participants age 6 and up


Adult Canoe Trips:

Trips for adults only have been arranged for this year also. The currently scheduled adult canoe trips are:

Beer Tasting on the Gunnison River – July 30-August 1, for participants age 21 years and up

Canoe waterfightJoin Jeff Brown, President of Boulder Beer Company (Colorado’s first micro-brewery), for a unique and educational look into the micro-brewing beer industry and how it differs from macro-breweries.  The best part will be sampling various styles of beer and learning how they are made.  After a day spent outdoors paddling and hiking, a cold beer around the campsite sure sounds great.  Don’t worry, we will keep the beer cold!  Adults only.

Wine Tasting on the Gunnison River - August 6-8, for participants age 21 years and up

Wine tasting on the Gunnison riverThis trip pairs some of Colorado’s finest wines with some of the state’s most beautiful scenery. Award-winning  Balistreri Vineyards will co-sponsor and facilitate this delightful weekend of wine tasting and education. They will feature their premium wines during happy hour and dinner, providing insight into the Colorado wine industry, different grapes and the making of wine, how to correctly taste wine and successfully pair it with food.  Your days will be spent exploring the beauty of the Gunnison River, paddling through the spectacular canyons of the Colorado Plateau.

Special Wine Tasting
On Tuesday, August 3, prior to your river adventure, Balistreri Vineyards is offering a free tour and wine tasting at 6 pm. Family and friends, age 21 and older, are welcome. Please RSVP to Centennial Canoe by Friday, July 30 at 303-287-5156. The wine tasting will take place as long as a minimum of ten people have made reservations.

The Canoe with the Zoo trips fill up fast, so get your registration with Centennial Canoe in early. Prices for all trips include all meals, canoes, paddles, life jackets, cooking utensils, waterproof gear bags, toilet paper, and other comforts. A list of suggested supplies will be provided after registration.
