The freeride scene at Winter Park Resort continues to push the progressive envelope with it’s seven Terrain Parks.
Starter and Bouncer Terrain Parks
The Starter Terrain Park and Bouncer Terrain Park are a great place to start learning how to ride the rails. The rails in both of these terrain parks are wide and low, making it easy for first timers to try it out! If you’ve been nervous in the past about trying the rails.., there’s no excuse now! The Winter Park crew has these rails as friendly as plastic and metal can be. Now’s your chance to experience life in the park! Look for these Winter Park Terrain Parks below Snoasis at the bottom of the Allan Phipps run. The Starter and Bouncer Terrain Parks are rated: Small
Ash Cat Terrain Park
Winter Parks Ash Cat Terrain Park, formerly known as Kendrick, is another great place to learn! It’s filled with features designed to help you improve your park riding skills. Ash Cat is fun for those beginning to ride parks and perfect for seasoned riders who want to test their big tricks…on small features. This is a small and medium-sized park that’s friendly to learn in and progress – so relax and have fun! You’ll find the Ash Cat Terrain Park off the Prospector Express and Looking Glass Chairlifts. The Ash Cat Terrain Park is rated: Small and Medium
Gangway Terrain Park
This terrain park may not be familiar to some, but you’ve probably hit it on your way from Ash Cat back to the lifts. Located under the Prospector Express Lift, the Gangway Terrain Park includes a few fun features and jibs. You’ll find this park near the end of Butches Breezeway and the Jack Kendrick runs. The Gangway Terrain Park is rated: Medium
Re-Railer Terrain Park
Once you’ve mastered Ash Cat, take a stab at Re-Railer! It’s the next logical step as you improve your riding ability. The Re-Railer Terrain Park is a medium park that will take your tricks to the next level. There are all kinds of rails, jumps and jib features. All intended to get your creative juices flowing! Look for the Re-Railer Terrain Park next to the Cranmer run and just below the Village Way run. The Re-Railer Park is rated: Medium
Rail Yard Terrain Park
The Rail Yard® is Winter Park’s premier and most advanced terrain park! Bring the skills that you perfected in our other parks and propel them to the next level. Each year the Winter Park Crew adds a few new features and switches up the layout of the park. This season is no exception. Jibbable features will pepper the park to keep your skiing and riding creative and fun. In addition to all the rails and features, the Rail Yard is home to Winter Parks Superpipe, recognized as one of the best in North America! Aligned North-Northeast, this 405 foot long superpipe has 16.5 foot walls and 18 feet of transition. Take the Zephyr Express and Lariat lifts to the Sunspot Lodge, then follow the March Hare run to drop into the top of the Rail Yard. The Rail Yard Terrain Park is rated: Large
Dark Territory Terrain Park
Winter Parks Dark Territory Terrain Park is a controlled-accessed section of the Rail Yard® Terrain Park. Dark Territory combines the largest and most technical features to create a terrain park for riders at the top of their game! A separate pass is required to access this area. To obtain a pass, you must watch a short video and sign an additional waiver. Should you choose to enjoy this area, you are expected to take additional steps to ensure everyone’s safety, as well as your own.
To get your Dark Territory pass for the FIRST YEAR, you will need to do the following:
- Attend an orientation at Showcase Snowboard Shop at the base of Winter Park Resort beginning November 14 through April 7. The video will take approximately 20 minutes .
- Sign a Dark Territory liability form (Riders under 18 years of age must have a parent, or LEGAL guardian, sign the waiver)
- A First Year Dark Territory pass costs $ 20.00, payable at the time of issue. (Replacement passes will cost $ 10.00)
- The pass is valid for one season
- Dark Territory is open to Freeriders 10 years and older
TO RENEW YOUR PASS EACH FOLLOWING YEAR, fill-out/sign the waiver and pay $ 10.00. You can do it at the same time you renew your season pass. Returning Dark Territory pass holders DO NOT have to watch the video and will be issued ONE PASS for Dark Territory and Lift Access.
