Woodland Park Colorado
Called the “The City Above the Clouds,” Woodland Park enjoys breathtaking views of Pikes Peak. Woodland Park is a Rocky Mountain community just 18 miles west of Colorado Springs, is the largest city in Teller county and has many interesting things to see and do. From this town, a visitor can experience the mining history of Cripple Creek and Victor, see the beauty of the Mueller State Park, travel back in geologic time and see thousands of fossils at the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, and even learn more about the Jurassic Era at the Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center.

Woodland Park is only about 8 miles away from the Rampart Range and is surrounded by spruce, pine and aspen trees. It enjoys the beautiful clean air, blue skies and sunshine that Colorado is famous for – over 300 days/year on average. Because of the wonderful weather, any season is fun in Woodland Park. Summertime means camping, hiking, wildlife watching, mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing, scenic drives, golfing, shopping and picnicking. The wintertime features skiing, sledding, sleigh rides, ice-skating, snowshoeing, winter camping, ice-fishing and more. In one million acres of Pike National Forest, you can find a lot to enjoy.
The history of Woodland Park begins in 1891, when it was incorporated. The primary business in the town was saw milling. Using the surrounding resources, logs were cut and sold for railroad ties and the braces used for the gold mines of nearby Cripple Creek and Victor. It’s also located at the junction of Ute Pass and a valley which extends north of the city, with easy access to Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak to the southeast, Denver to the north, and mountain recreation areas in all directions. A central location then and now make it an ideal place to visit when you’re in Colorado.

- Parks and Recreation – Residents and visitors alike can enjoy the variety of public parks and leisure-time facilities. There are 25 acres of improved parks including Memorial Park, Meadow Wood Park, Bergstrom Park, and the Lion’s Park. Enjoy playgrounds, picnicking, fishing, ice skating, softball, and special events.
- Ute Pass Cultural Center – The Ute Pass Cultural Center is a unique community facility for the purpose of providing cultural, educational and social enrichment to local residents and visitors to the Woodland Park area. Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center – Located in beautiful downtown Woodland Park, Colorado, RMDRC encompasses a total of 20,000 sq.ft. including 12,000 sq.ft. of dedicated exhibit space. There are more than 30 full size skeletons and life restorations to see, a working paleo lab where ongoing fossil preparation, restoration, molding, casting and mounting can be viewed as part of your tour. See the 40 foot Tyrannosaurus Rex, sea monsters such as a 45 foot Tylosaurus, and more in the Marine Hall.- Trout Fishing – Spinney Mountain Reservoir, Eleven Mile Reservoir, Rampart Reservoir and Manitou Lake are all nearby and great for fishing, picnics and day trips for the whole family.
