The Richards-Hart Estate
James W. Richards originally purchased 160 acres in 1869 and built the house in the early 1870′s. Richards came to Colorado to look for gold but prospered as an entrepreneur. He was a successful orchardist and wheat farmer as well as a prominent and active citizen in the early Wheat Ridge community. The Italianate architecture styled home evolved from the country residence, known as Lake Side that was built to overlook Sloans Lake. The Estate was purchased by the City of Wheat Ridge in 1976 and renovated. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 5, 1977. It is now an ideal setting for weddings, receptions, parties, and meetings.
The Richards-Hart Estate is located at W. 28th Ave. and Benton St., two blocks west of Sheridan.

Wheat Ridge Off Leash Dog Park
The first Wheat Ridge Off Leash Dog Park opened to an eager crowd of two-legged and four-legged supporters on October 22, 2011. Many local citizens and organizations teamed up to fund and construct this dog park, which is approximately 2 acres in size and is situated in the northeast area of Fruitdale Park within the existing crusher fine trail loop. It is surrounded by a 6 ft. fence to contain large dogs, which is consistent with many other existing dog parks. A divider fence separates a large dog area from a small dog area, and a series of gates allow dogs to be contained while being taken off leash prior to entering the unleashed area.
The Off Leash Dog Park is located at Fruitdale Park, 4700 Miller St. (west of Kipling and north of 44th Ave.). Hours are 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily. Access and parking for Fruitdale Park is available at W. 47th Ave. and Miller St.
