Vail Colorado

The Bavarian Style Vail Village Comes Alive At Night - Photo by J. AffleckVail Colorado’s location high in the mountains makes a perfect environment for pleasantly warm summers and cold snowy winters. Between Thanksgiving and late February the temperature rarely rises above freezing, but the summer’s average is a beautiful 70° to 80° range.  Every survey of ski fans mentions Vail in the top 10 ski resorts in the USA or even the world. Skiing built this town and that’s why most travelers go there, but this town has so much more to offer in the warm months. Why not check it out yourself?

Vail Mountain Scenic Hiking Tour - Photo by Peter FredinSpring and summer in Vail offer a wealth of recreational opportunities. The mountain streams and lakes provide awesome fishing, canoeing, rafting and you can even go mountain biking down the ski trails. One of my personal favorites is an afternoon horseback ride through the rugged back country, but if you prefer to be on two legs instead of atop four, why not try an energizing hike? No matter what activity you choose, you will experience the breathe-taking beauty of the Rocky Mountains as your backdrop. The Rockies, Vail and the surrounding White River National Forest, all provide exciting and gorgeous recreational experiences. All of which are ready and waiting to welcome you and your family year round!

Colorado Vail Valley Music Festival at Gearald R Ford AmpitheaterIf you are part of the artsy crowd you will want to make sure to visit Vail during the summer for the Bravo! Colorado Vail Valley Music Festival. It starts in late June and runs until early August. You will experience classical orchestra and chamber music, as well as vocal and pops, baroque and modern jazz. While you are in town for the festival why not check out the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens in Ford Park? The gardens offer an alpine display, perennial garden and mountain meditation garden with approximately 2,000 varieties of plants. Yet another way to experience Colorado’s incredible beauty!

Walking tour through Vail Village is funVail is a great example of mountain village design. Modeled after European ski towns, the town is partially car-free but offers the largest free shuttle bus system in the USA, starting off first thing in the morning and running until 2 a.m. The town itself is compact and easy to walk around, so once you are in Vail you really do not need a car. But if you decide to drive, Denver is close enough to make a fun day trip to explore the state’s capital during your visit.
