Telluride Colorado Attractions

There are so many things to see and do in the Telluride area. In addition to the Telluride Ski Resort, there are outdoor attractions you’ll want to see including Bear Creek Falls, Mt. Sneffels Highline Trail, Bridal Veil and Ingram Falls, The Telluride Gondola  and more. For entertainment indoors, check out the Telluride Historical Museum to get a feel for the history of the entire area. Bear Creek Falls

Bear Creek Falls in Telluride Colorado is beautiful - image by adventurist.netBear Creek Falls are beautiful and scenic waterfalls that tumble down into Telluride’s box canyon in the San Juan Mountains. Only a stones throw from the center of Telluride, this is a free hiking activity that you’ll want the family to see. One caution – this is a high altitude area above 9,500 ft. and so while the hike itself may be fairly easy, it may take a while to reach the falls if you aren’t used to the elevation. The distance is 2.5 miles one way to the falls, and the elevation gain: 1,050 feet. Start your adventure at South Pine Street and cross the bridge….

Sneffels Highline Trail

The length of trail and altitude is a factor; this scenic 13-mile hiking trail skirts the perimeter of the Sneffels Wilderness, with a 3,600 foot elevation change. Start to follow the Jud Wiebe Trail about 1/2 mile and take the path that crosses Butcher Creek to the left.  After you cross the creek, a signpost will indicate the Sneffels Highline Trail and you will climb north above the tree line.  You will then drop down into the Mill Creek Basin where you will access the Waterline Trail (goes over the bridge) that takes you back to the Jud Wiebe Trail into town.  Mountain bikes are prohibited on this trail.

Telluride Gondola

Telluride to St. Sophia and Mountain Village Gondola is a Free ride for allFor an amazing adventure that’s also FREE – come ride the Telluride Gondola between the two towns of Telluride and Mountain Village.  It takes about 13 minutes to cross over to the other side and is the first and only free public transportation system of its kind in the United States. This popular scenic attraction provides access to hiking and biking trails in the summer and the ski slopes in the winter. Passengers can load the gondola in either Mountain Village or Telluride and ride to the midway point (Station St. Sophia from which hiking, biking and ski trails are accessed) and then continue on to the other side.  The gondola typically runs daily from 7:00 am to midnight in both summer and winter. Be aware that the gondola closes for a short time in the (off season) late spring and fall for maintenance.

Bridal Veil and Ingram Falls

Bridal Veil Falls in Telluride Colorado can be seen from town - image by Guy SchmickleThis hike is suitable for beginners with a beautiful 6-mile round trip that takes you to a spectacular set of waterfalls just outside the town of Telluride. To reach Ingram Falls – begin by driving east on Colorado Ave. past Pandor Mill and toward Black Bear Pass. The Bridal Veil Falls is at the end of the box canyon which overlooks Telluride. Sheridan Opera House

“The Sheridan Opera House was built by the Telluride miners in 1913 as a vaudeville theater and cultural center, attracting variety shows, orchestras and touring theater companies. Performers from Lillian Gish to Sarah Bernhardt to Jackson Browne have graced our stage. In 1991 the Sheridan Arts Foundation was created, saving the opera house from demolition. Mountain Village

Town Park

“Located on the east edge of town, toward the head of the valley is Town Park. This is a place to have civilized relaxation and organized sports. Town Park boasts a wide variety of summer and winter sport venues. When there is no snow on the ground, one can play baseball, basketball, tennis, or use the half pipe skate facility. There is also enough room to just play frisbee or catch. When there is snow on the ground, one can cross-country ski, play broom-ball, ice-skate, or play ice hockey.”
