Steamboat Springs was named in the mid 1800’s when Fur trappers who paddled down the Yampa River were sure they could hear a chugging steamship. The huffing and puffing noise they were hearing was actually a geyser. That geyser is still located at the west end of town but no longer has the trademark steamship sound. Steamboat is famous for its mineral hot springs and has over 150 of them. One of the most popular is the Strawberry Park Hot Springs.
