Penrose Colorado is home to the worlds largest rocking chairDowntown Penrose truly is the definition of “small town” while still equipped with the necessities. On its main street you will find a small grocery store, car wash, laundromat, antique shop, VFW, a small bar and even a barber in case you find yourself with unruly locks. Near downtown is also an adorable coffee shop, 2 restaurants (limited hours) a gas station and a new addition to the area, Biker Town. There aren’t any hotels in Penrose but there is an RV Park. So if you desire that Sleep Number bed don’t worry, you are a quick 30 minutes away from three major cities. (Canon City, Pueblo & South Colorado Springs) Penrose is known for its hot summers but in typical Colorado style August can be very rainy. So, if you plan on heading out to Brush Hollow for a day of hiking, fishing or boating come prepared! While you are here don’t forget to snap a picture of the “World’s Largest Rocking Chair!”

If you're a 4-Wheel trail fan, Independence trail just outside Penrose Colorado, will give you a true challenge! If you want to check out Independence Trail turn from Highway 115 onto 3rd Street and follow the signs to the Brush Hollow Reservoir boat ramp, the trail starts about a mile in. The staging area is marked by a large steel sign with directions and warnings. Don’t ignore or take these warnings lightly. The whole trail is very tight and there is very little room to stop or let a vehicle pass and if you get stuck on the trail and need to be towed it will cost you $350! There is a parking lot within walking distance and most weekends throughout the summer you can watch people running this trail if you don’t have the equipment to do it yourself. But if you are adventurous and have the right equipment this trail is a blast!
