Lakewood Colorado Attractions
Lakewood Colorado is located on the Front Range directly west of Denver. It’s the 3rd most populous city in the State of Colorado, so there is much to see and do. Lakewood has been around since the 1890’s and has many historic sites to visit. There are attractions both new and old, and we’ll try and direct you to some of the most interesting ones. A lot of outdoor area is available through Jefferson County Parks and Recreation for year round fun. If you are planning a visit to the Jefferson County and Lakewood Colorado area, here are some of the attractions you can enjoy.
Bear Creek Lake Park
Bear Creek Reservoir, a 205 acre reservoir, is one of three bodies of water in the Bear Creek Park. The other two lakes are Big Soda and Little Soda, and both have wind sailing and water skiing in summer. Bear Creek Park offers almost 2,600 acres of land with 15 miles of dirt trails for both hiking and biking. Explore Bear Creek Lake Park by foot, from the deck of a sailboat, on a mountain bike or on the back of a horse. There are 47 campsites with electricity and a Visitor Center with Nature programs for the family. Daily park passes are no more than $5 and annual passes may be purchased. Lakewood Cultural Center
The Lakewood Cultural Center is located in the Lakewood City Commons across from the Belmar Shopping Area at Wadsworth and Alameda, with 38,000 square feet if space containing a state-of-the-art 316-seat theater, an art gallery, and the Artisan Showcase gift shop. The Cultural Center presents regional, national and internationally recognized artists, and is host to community performances, presentations, exhibits and art classes. Regularly schedule performances by the best musicians, dance troupes, acrobats and symphony artists are available at the Center. Located at 470 S. Allison Parkway, Lakewood Colorado. Lakewood Heritage Center
Lakewood’s heritage center is situated on 15 acres and holds historic barns, buildings and a school house, all from the turn of the century. Visitors can explore the property on their own or take a tour; this is a great way to step back into the past and experience a different side of Lakewood. Here you can enjoy the open air performances at the Amphitheater, visit over 10 historic structures, see 30,000 artifacts, and see the history of Lakewood through the changing exhibits. Some other wonderful places to visit: The incredible outdoor Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Morrison’s dinosaur tracks and Museum Visitor Center and the famous Bandimere Speedway drag strip which are all nearby on the western edge of Lakewood.
