Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument
Just 7 miles from Lake George you’ll find the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, one of the richest and most diverse fossil beds in the world! Whether you’re looking for indoor or outdoor activities, this National Park provides both. Spend some time exploring the Visitor Center where you can view exhibits, watch films, and talk with Rangers about all the park has to offer. Then, get outside and enjoy more than 14 miles of trails leading you to massive petrified tree stumps and other amazing geological features of Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument. The Ponderosa Loop and Petrified Forest Loop trails are both easy hikes where you’ll get an overview of all this Colorado National Monument has to offer. Mueller State Park
About 20 minutes away from Lake George Colorado you’ll find Mueller State Park. This Colorado State Park offers 5,000 acres for campers, hikers, mountain bikers, wildlife watchers and winter sports enthusiasts to explore. With 55 miles of trails, 132 campsites and three year round cabins, Mueller State Park is a perfect destination for your next Colorado outing! The Visitor Center is a good place to start your visit to Mueller. Displays, information and Rangers will help you get your bearings and detail the many park features. Then, whether you select a Ranger guided or self-guided excursion, you’re bound to enjoy all that Mueller State Park has to offer it’s visitors. Spinney Mountain State Park
Gold Medal trout fishing awaits you just 27 miles away from Lake George Colorado at Spinney Mountain State Park. Enjoy a leisurely 40 minute drive from Lake George to the amazing fishing at Spinney Reservoir. From the shore or in a boat, you’ll enjoy the peaceful and scenic view of the Collegiate Mountains as you attempt to reel in the big one! Not into fishing? No problem, Spinney Mountain State Park offers much more! Wildlife viewers enjoy the many opportunities that the reservoir provides to encounter ducks, birds of prey and other Colorado wildlife. Spinney Mountain Reservoir offers other water activities too, sailboarding, sailing and water skiing are popular pastimes. Hiking around the lakes single track trails is also enjoyed by many of the parks visitors. There are no camping facilities at Spinney but there are picnic sites with tables and grills available on both sides of the reservoir as well as at the parking area by the river below the dam.
