Kremmling Colorado

Kremmling Cliffs at sunrise are very impressiveLocated near the upper Colorado river in the lower section of Middle Park, Kremmling’s initial starts occurred back in 1881 when the Kinsey brothers decided to turn part of their ranch into a town they would call Kinsey City. Then in 1884, Rudolph “Kare” Kremmling started a general store across the creek from the Kinsey brothers town and before long people were starting to refer to the as Kremmling. The first Post Office was called Kinsey City and “Kare” was the first Postmaster. In 1895 the town became officially known as Kremmling and once the the Denver, Northwestern & Pacific arrived, the town became the central shipping location for the area’s ranchers.

Just outside Kremmling, the Blue River and Muddy Creek join up with the headwaters of the Colorado River. The abundant water in the area was one reason why ranchers were initially drawn to the area. It also had a lot to do with the decision to start a town. The Blue river drops into the area from the south and Muddy Creek, from the north. The ample water supply also supported a diverse wildlife population making the area a natural hunting ground for early Native American residents as well as the ranchers that later settled the valley. Today, abundant hunting and fishing opportunities still exist, bringing the Kremmling area the title “Sportsman’s Paradise of Colorado”.

Camping, horse back riding, hiking and biking, river rafting, OHV/four-wheeling are popular summer activities here. Fishing and boating on Wolford Mountain and Green Mountain reservoirs is another draw to the area. Winter in Kremmling features snowshoeing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling as well as downhill skiing at 2 local ski resorts and 7 additional resorts within a reasonable drive.
