Argo Gold Mill and Museum

Idaho Springs Argo Gold Mine and Mill - image by Colorado OutingThe construction of the Argo Tunnel began in 1893 and started transporting gold bearing ore from the many mines it would intersect along the way.  The Argo Mill processed an amazing amount of the gold bearing ore from these mines. In fact, the Argo would be the largest mill of its type in the world. The Argo is open daily from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm with the Last Tour at 4:30 pm. Keep in mind the Winter Tours are subject to weather. For more information Call (303) 567-2421.

St. Mary’s Glacier

St. Mary's Glacier outside of Idaho Springs - image by writetojoncookNot only can you ski when visiting St. Mary’s Glacier but deer hunting is also popular in the area. For non-hunters, wildlife viewing and photography is an option. There is an abundance of local wildlife to see including a large herd of Bighorn Sheep which live in the area to complete the fun. The St. Mary’s Glacier area is in the Silver Lake area by upper Fall River. In 1948, a husband and wife built the St. Mary’s Glacier Lodge, and started a dude ranch. Much has happened over the years, but the Glacier Hike is still one of the top tourist destinations in Clear Creek County.
