Georgetown Colorado Attractions

Georgetown Colorado is located west of Idaho Springs  off Interstate-70 in the original area which saw the Colorado Gold Rush of 1859. There are many mining towns, ghost towns and things to see and do in this Colorado historic area. Georgetown Loop Historic Railroad & Park

Come ride one of the Narrow Gauge railroads of Colorado, and make the journey between Georgetown and Silver Plume Colorado rising up over the Clear Creek Valley.

Hamill House Museum

The Hamill House Museum is the centerpiece of the Georgetown-Silver Plume National Historic Landmark District (designated 1966) The Hamill House Museum interprets 19th century residential living in Georgetown, Colorado: including architecture, furnishing, Victorian plants, landscaping, social and cultural lifestyles.  This was an example of a wealthy mining entrepreneur’s home; constructed beginning in 1867.

Hotel de Paris Museum

The Hotel de Paris Museum ™, a National Trust Historic Site. The Museum is located in Georgetown, Colorado, just west of Denver. Come see a restoration of a beautiful vintage Hotel built by Louis Dupuy who, in 1869 went to work for the Rocky Mountain News as a roving reporter for the mining camps. He became a miner working in Georgetown and Silver Plume, but an injury caused him to rethink his profession and so he acquired a property, created a restaurant and hotel called the Hotel de Paris. Georgetown Energy Museum

Georgetown Energy Museum is located in a fully functioning and operational Hydroelectric generating plant in Georgetown, Colorado. The plant is owned and operated by Xcel Energy. It has been in operation since1900. The museum includes exhibits and photographs and also household / consumer appliances relating the the early use of electricity. The Energy Museum is open June 1 through 1st week in October – Monday through Saturday from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, Sunday Noon – 4:00 pm.

Bowman-White House Museum

The Bowman-White House reflects the upper class and professional people of early Georgetown. The Italianate structure is accented with Queen Anne details and at the time of construction, contained over 2400 square feet of living space. This was the home of a mine manager named John Henry Bowman and was built for his family in 1892. The family continued to own and reside here for three generations. Georgetown Lake

Some very nice Rainbows have been taken by the bridge and in the first cove on the South side of the Lake. The East side of the lake is producing browns 8-13 inches on salmon eggs and worm combinations, along with Rainbows up to 12 inches. Keep an eye to the sky for any signs of lightning, springtime weather can change quickly, be prepared. The Lake is typically stocked with good sized rainbow trout and is home for some brown, cutthroat and brook trout. The south side of the lake offers good fishing along with natural windbreaks, which can come in handy in this typically windy canyon.
