Fairplay Colorado
Located in the South Central region of the State, Fairplay Colorado is the County Seat for Park County. Founded in 1859, this historic gold mining town was part of the Pikes Peak Gold Rush. Men referred to the original settlement as “Fair Play”, because they felt that every man would have an equal opportunity to stake a claim. The settlement had also been known as Platte City and South Park City, but around 1874, residents of the area began calling the settlement Fairplay. Prior to the gold rush, Trappers and Ute Indians used the South Park Valley as a summer camp and hunting grounds.
