Brush Colorado
Incorporated in October 1884, Brush Colorado started off as a supply stop along the Texas-Montana Trail. The town is named for Jared L. Brush, an early cattle industry pioneer. Nestled in the fertile South Platte River Valley, early settlers were attracted to the area because of the rich loamy soil, perfect for crops of all sorts. Today, Brush is a bustling Colorado prairie town that produces bountiful crops of Corn, Soy, Sugar Beets and Wheat.

Back in 1866 Texas Cattlemen wanted to drive their cattle up to the lush grazing land available in eastern Montana. That desire created the Texas-Montana Cattle Trail. In Colorado, the trail eventually led to the banks of Beaver Creek in northeastern Colorado. This point on the trail was a natural choice for a trail crew supply station to be established. By the early 1900’s, the small Beaver Creek Station had grown into the Colorado community we now know as Brush Colorado. And once the Burlington Rail Line hit town, this Colorado town was poised to take it’s place as part of Colorado agricultural heartland.
The early Brush economy was generated from livestock and a small amount of agricultural ventures, however, once the sugar factory was built, the driving economic force in the are switched to the farming industry. And with plenty of acreage irrigated by the South Platte River and nearby irrigation reservoirs, Brush flourished.
Today, Brush Colorado is still at the center of agriculture in Colorado. “Brush is the food and energy hub of a strong and growing local and regional market area. Known for its wide open spaces, Brush strives to retain its highly valued rural quality of life while easily mixing high tech with traditional rodeos and county fairs.”
