When the Colorado Central Railroad made a plan to send their trains over Little Thompson creek, the beginnings of the settlement which would become Berthoud were laid. In 1877 a train depot, section house, and water tank were installed and the Little Thompson settlement was renamed Berthoud for the man who had surveyed the rail route in the area. It didn’t take long for families, a store, a blacksmith shop and combination school and church to make this community expand. Today, Berthoud is still an agricultural community, with two elementary schools, a middle and a high school and it still retains the small town charm.  Come see for yourself what makes Colorado’s Garden Spot special.
