Five major trails can be accessed near the Cordova Pass Campground.The Cordova Pass Campground is located at the top of Cordova Pass, about 23 miles south of La Veta Colorado. This tiny San Isabel National Forest campground has only 3 campsites that will accommodate tents only. There are tables, but no water is available at this campground so make sure to bring an adequate supply for your stay. There is one vault toilet. No trash collection is provided for this Colorado campground so make sure to pack out your trash. The Cordova Pass Campground is normally open from mid-April to early October, weather permitting. There are some primitive camping sites in the area too.

This is a popular campground despite it’s size. The reason, first it’s captivating area with a great view of the West Spanish Peak from the top of Cordova Pass. The Cordova Pass campground is situated just outside the Spanish Peaks Wilderness Area. The forest all around Cordova Pass is dense and beautiful. Plus, there are a number of Trailheads close by. The West Spanish Peak, Vista Point, Salazar, Levy-Krier and Apishapa Trailheads can all be accessed near the campground. The Vista Point trail is handicapped accessible trail.

Please be aware that this is an active bear area so Be Bear Aware! And remember, in an active bear area, it is prohibited to possess or leave unattended any food, refuse or other bear attractants unless it is; A. stored in a bear resistant method or, B. being eaten, prepared for eating or being transported.

Location: From La Veta, travel south on SH 12, 17 miles to the tope of Cucharas Pass.  Turn left (east) onto C.R. 364/46 and travel 6 miles to the campground at the top of Cordova Pass.
