The Wye Campground is located about 14 miles outside Colorado Springs Colorado in the Pike National Forest. This Colorado Campground is considered a primitive, high altitude campground. Only limited services are available for the 21 campsites here and water is not one of them, so you’ll need to bring adequate water for your camping parties stay. There are also no trash dumpsters at the Wye National Forest Campground so plan to pack out your trash. The season for this campground is mid-May through October, weather permitting.
The altitude of this campground makes it a natural wildlife viewing location in the summer time. The cooler day and nighttime temperatures tend to draw deer, elk and other wildlife looking for relief from the higher temperatures at lower elevations. The daytime temperatures in the peak of summer may reach the low 80’s and night time temps are generally in the mid 40’s. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in the area so be sure to have some wet weather gear along with you.
In addition to wildlife viewing, hiking and mountain biking are popular activities in the Wye Campground area. Further down Gold Camp Road (FSR370) is Penrose-Rosemont Reservoir. Set among beautiful stands of Aspen trees, this reservoir can provide some excellent fishing opportunities. Since the reservoir is a Colorado Springs drinking water source, some special rules apply. First of all, this lake is open to fishermen only and is a flies and lures only lake. To use the only trail down to the lake, you must be a licensed fisherman with a fishing pole. Keep in mind too, that the trail is very steep for the first 100-150 yards, so it may not be for everyone. CDOW patrols the shore regularly and there is a caretaker on site. There is no fishing on the dam or near the caretakers cabin. Another item of note, no dogs are allowed at the lake.

Loved camping here. Very nice spots large spots and the outhouses weren’t too bad either! Would come back over and over and over again!!!
