Davenport Campground signIt’s believed that the Davenport Campground was the first Forest Service campground in Colorado. This San Isabel National Forest Campground was renovated in 2009 and restored to it’s 1920’s feel. All the Davenport campground campsites are walk-in tent sites and some feature adirondack shelters. These walk-in sites are anywhere from 25 yards to 100 yards from the parking area and six of the sites are handicap accessible. Only three of the Davenport campground sites are reservable.

If you have friends coming up to spend the day, there is a group picnic shelter that has a beautiful rock fire place in it. The picnic shelter is not reservable. Activities in the area include fishing in the local streams and Lake Isabel just down the Greenhorn Highway (Hwy 165) a few miles. There are quite a few hiking trails nearby, some of them are multi-use trails, so you might want to bring your mountain bikes, ATV’s or horses when you visit this Colorado campground. And a must see during your stay is Bishop’s Castle. You’ll be amazed by what one man’s dream has created!
