Sheriff Reservoir Campground is located near Yampa ColoradoSheriff Reservoir Campground is a small, high altitude campground in the Routt National Forest near Yampa, Colorado. There are only 6 campsites in the trees of this picturesque campsite, each having picnic tables and fire grates. There are vault toilets for the campground visitors but NO water is provided. The usual season for this campground is Memorial Day through September 30th depending on weather. The camp overlooks the beautiful Sheriff Reservoir.

Sheriff Reservoir allows fishing and canoeing, but no motorized boatsActivities in the area include scenic drives in the amazing Flat Tops Scenic Byway, and you can fish and canoe on the lake. There are no motorized boats allowed on Sheriff Reservoir. Mountain biking and hiking opportunities are all around the area, and trailheads near the camp access the Flat Top Mountains. Look for Pyramid Peak, the Little Flat Tops, Mandall Pass, Orno Peak, Devil’s Causeway, and more in the Dunckley Pass area. Because you are in high altitude, and in big game country, wildlife viewing is great here. Remember too that this is bear country and use extreme caution when storing food.

Directions to the Sheriff Reservoir Campground

Location: From Yampa, follow County Rd 17 NW for 5 miles to County Rd 132. Follow Cty Rd 132 West for 2.5 miles to the Forest boundary where it becomes National Forest System Road (NFSR) 16. Continue another 4.5 miles on NFSR 16 until you reach NFSR 960. Go South on NFSR 960 for 3 miles to the campground.
