View of North Michigan Reservoir from the NorthThe North Michigan campground in Colorado’s State Forest State Park borders the North Michigan Reservoir and is divided into two sections, one on the north side of the and one on the south. There are 48 sites total between the two sections, 10 of which are for tent camping only. There are also six cabins available to rent.

North Michigan Campground Site 207The north side of the campground is mostly out in the open and contains thirteen campsites and the six cabins. Three of the north campground sites are for tents only, 211, 212 and 213. These three tent sites do have some shade. Site 207 sits right on the reservoir and is handicap accessible. The non-tent sites will accommodate medium sized RV’s. All but one of the RV sites, 203, are back in sites. There are two hydrants and four vault style restrooms in this portion of the North Michigan campground.

North Michigan Campground Site 235The South Side offers 35 campsites and five of those are pull-through sites, 237-241. All campsites in the south section are designed to accommodate larger RV’s, the pull-through sites will hold very large rigs since their average pad length is 82 feet. You’ll find that the south side of the North Michigan campground is also more shaded. Seven of the sites are for tents only, 215, 216, 217, 219, 221, 222 and 225. There are two vault style restrooms in the south side campground but no water hydrants.

Water related activities are an obvious focus at this campground. Fishing for Brook, Brown and Rainbow trout is a popular pastime. The lake is regularly stocked and the fishing is generally good. Kayaking, canoeing and boating are also fun activities here. It’s a good lake for families to paddle around in since reservoir is restricted to wakeless speeds only. There are two boat ramps at this lake, both are on the north side. No swimming is permitted in North Michigan Reservoir. There are many other activities in the area too. The Gould Loop Trail is close by is an enjoyable hike. On some weekend summer nights local Rangers present interpretive programs in the Ranger Lakes campground amphitheater that is very close by. Fishing and hiking around Ranger lakes is also an option. Other activities include, bird watching, biking, horseback riding, photography, wildlife viewing, OHV riding, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, snowshoeing and snow sledding.
