Midland Group Campground is part of the Arapaho National Forest and is located directly off of Highway 40 as you descend Berthoud Pass toward Winter Park. It’s designed as a group camp only, and will accommodate a group of up to 36 people. There is no water on site, but Idlewild Campground another 3 miles down the road has water hydrants you may use. A few miles away is the town of Winter Park, Colorado which offers everything from a movie theater and great places to eat, to shopping and family fun at the WP Village. The Village has a free gondola ride which takes you from the upper parking lot of the Vintage Hotel to the WP Village itself. There you can take your mountain bike up the big gondola for a ride down the trails, have races down the Alpine Slide, play on the outdoor amusements or get lost in the Amaze. Everywhere you look there are fun things to keep you busy in and around Winter Park.
The campground is by the Fraser River, so activities like fishing, kayaking on Woods Creek or Clear Creek West Fork, and hiking on Sevenmile ski Trail, the James Peak Lake Trail, and the Mary Jane Ski Trail are all around. In addition, mountain biking and wildlife watching are always enjoyable. Idlewild also has a great Fraser River Trail access. The campground is fairly shady, and so it does get cool even during the daytime. Remember to dress for higher altitude. There are horse stables close by at Winter Park, so a trail ride might be a fun way to enjoy the afternoon.
Additional Services Available:
Picnic tables, vault toilet, fishing access. Water not available on site. One may fill water containers at Idlewild Campground, located about 3.5 miles north towards Winter Park.
