Granite Campground is located in Routt National Forest, about 4 miles south of Buffalo Pass. It’s a small high altitude campground sitting at 10,200 ft. in elevation. Of the 8 sites, 4 are walk-in and 4 are drive-in and it’s recommended that vehicles with high clearance are used due to the terrain. Each site has a table, fireplace grate and there are vault toilets for use in the campground. No drinking water or trash service is provided. The campground is on the shore of Fish Creek Reservoir, which has recently been expanded.

Activities in the area include boating (non-motorized), trout fishing in the Fish Creek Reservoir, Long Lake Dam, Lake Dinosaur and in Elk River. If you enjoy whitewater, Rock Creek is nearby and you can run rapids in Elk River. Hiking trails you may want to look for include Percy Lake Trail, Crags Trail, Divide Trail, Newcomb Creek Trail and Fish Creek Falls Trail which is beautiful and handicapped accessible. The campground was closed in 2009 to cull hazardous trees with Mountain Pine Beetle, but no closures are mentioned for 2010 onward. Location: From Steamboat Springs, CO travel 2 miles northeast on Routt County Rd 36 (Strawberry Park Rd) then 13 miles northeast on Routt County Rd 38 (Buffalo Pass Rd) to Buffalo Pass. Go 4 miles south of Buffalo Pass on NFSR 310 to Fish Creek Reservoir and Granite Campground.
