Blacktail Creek Campground is a small high altitude campground located in the Routt National Forest not far from Gore Pass. It has 8 sites with Aspen trees and pine, provides water and vault toilets, and has fire grates and picnic tables in each campsite. The usual season for this camp is Memorial Day through September depending on the weather.  A separate picnic area is also available for day use. This is a small but popular 1st come, 1st served campground.

Activities in the area include fishing in Red Dirt Reservoir; streams to look for are Piney River, Rock Creek or the Colorado River, all of which may also be used for whitewater rafting or kayaking. If you enjoy mountain biking or hiking, look for Service Creek Trail, Tepee Creek Trail, the Midway Trail, Morrison Divide Trail, Gore Pass, and the Muddy Slide Trail. You are also nearby the Stagecoach State Park, so that would be a good day trip. There is abundant wildlife in the area, so take your camera. Remember you are in bear country, so use extreme caution when storing food.
