The West Chicago Creek Campground is located in the Arapaho National Forest about 9 miles southwest of Idaho Springs, Colorado. It sits along the West Chicago Creek in Lodgepole pine and aspen trees, and is at an elevation of 9,600 ft. Of the 16 sites in this high altitude campground, all are suited to RV’s or tents. The roads in the camp are dirt, there are 2 water hydrants and one restroom available. Additionally there is a day use area for picnics and it also has a water hydrant and a restroom. The usual season for this campground is Memorial Day through Labor Day depending on weather.
Activities in the area include trout fishing in West Chicago Creek, Lake Edith, Clear Creek and Silver Dollar Lake. If you enjoy hiking, nearby Hells Hole Trail takes you into the Mount Evans Wilderness, the Silver Dollar Lake Trail, Rosalie Trail, the Abyss Trail and the Argentine Trail are good, and Echo Lake Park and Golden Gate Canyon State Park are also close by. If you like whitewater rafting, Clear Creek is fun and Idaho Springs offers whitewater adventure tours. Taking a scenic drive up State Rt. 5 to Mt. Evans, the highest auto road in North America (14,265 ft.), is fun. Remember to watch for wildlife, including the Colorado State animal, the Big Horn sheep.

| Location: Three miles west of Hwy 103 on Forest Road 188 – Take I-70 to Idaho Springs (exit for SR103). Travel south on SR103 for approximately six miles to the turnoff. Turn right and travel about three miles to the campground. The campground is on the left side of the road. |
