The Pickle Gulch Group Campground is located in the Arapaho National Forest about three miles north of Black Hawk Colorado. The elevation of the campground is 9,100 feet and it sits among Lodgepole pine trees. It is designed as a tenting only – group campsite for six walk-in groups. There are two large parking areas for vehicles but no RV’s are allowed in the camp. Sites 1 through 5 will handle up to 30 campers while site 6 will accommodate up to 15. An amphitheater is available for group meetings or programs. The roads through the campground are gravel, there are 4 water hydrants and 4 restrooms which are handicapped accessible. This campground is open from late May to fall hunting season.
Activities in the area include hiking and mountain biking along with 4-wheel drive roads that Jeep clubs love to use. If you enjoy sight seeing, you are just 4 miles north of Central City and Black Hawk which is a historic area to visit. If you enjoy gambling, there are plenty of casinos, and taking in the atmosphere of the Opera House, the fascinating old Central City Cemetery, and other historic areas are fun to visit. The Peak to Peak Scenic Byway is also a beautiful sightseeing adventure. Nederland and Boulder Canyon are not too far away for a nice day trip with fishing, rock climbing and wildlife watching.
