Echo Lake camping is off Squaw Pass Road which was originally part of the Peak to Peak HighwayEcho Lake Campground is in the Arapaho National Forest, Clear Creek County and about 14 miles south of Idaho Springs, Colorado. It’s found off Highway 103, also known as Squaw Pass Road, which was part of the original Peak to Peak Highway. This high altitude campground is over 10,600 ft. and is surrounded by mature Engelmann spruce. It has one loop at the entrance and has 17 sites plus one for the camp host. There are 4 tent sites and 13 combo tent and RV suitable. Water is available during the camping season from end of May through September 11. Tables and grills are provided at each site, and there is a vault toilet which is handicapped accessible.

Echo Lake is a very high altitude and beautiful area to visitActivities in the area include wildlife watching, hiking and mountain biking along Chicago Lake Trail, Resthouse Trail, Captain Mountain Trail and Mt. Evans Wilderness.  You may enjoy fishing at nearby Echo Lake, a 5 acre lake high mountain lake which has no boating activity permitted. Mt. Evans is the highest auto road in North America and is a beautiful drive to enjoy. The elevation reaches 14,265 Ft. and provides a view of distant mountains and vistas that is unmatched. You may see Mountain Sheep and other wildlife, and please be cautious with food and storage even in the campground, because this is bear country.

Directions to Echo Lake Campground

Location: 14 miles south of Idaho Springs at the intersection of Hwy 103 and Hwy 5 – In Idaho Springs, CO, take State Rt. 103 (Mt. Evans Scenic Byway) south 13 miles to State Rt. 5.  Turn right onto Rt. 5, then left at campground sign into campground.
