Columbine Campground is in the Arapaho National Forest, Gilpin County and about 2 miles west of Central City, Colorado at an elevation of 9,200 feet. The 47 site campground is surrounded by a grove of aspen trees and Lodgepole pine. 43 of the sites are suitable for RV camping and 4 are more suited to tents. The roads through the campground are dirt. There are 4 restrooms, one of which is handicapped accessible on the lower loop, and there are 6 communal water pumps for the campground. The season for this camp is usually late May through mid-September.
Activities in the area include hiking, jeep trails and 4×4 roads which are also great for mountain biking. Scenic drives in the area include the Peak to Peak highway, Golden Gate Canyon State Park is nearby. The towns of Central City and Black Hawk are within a few miles and offer casino gambling and restaurants, entertainment and Central City Opera. A fascinating old cemetery which has graves from the 1800′s and 1900′s can be found at the top of the hill on Highway 279. The markers and headstones are a historic look into the Pike’s Peak Gold Rush era and the Central City residents who lived and died here at the turn of the last century.

| Location: Two and one-half miles Northwest of Central City via Gilpin County Road 3 on Forest Road 176. To access, turn left off of Hwy 119 and go through Central City on Hwy 279. At the top near the cemeteries, follow the signs to the campground. | |
