On February 17, 2012 they are hosting a special event to publicly do so.  At the “Natural Areas Department Volunteer Appreciation Dinner”, the Mayor, City Manager and Council members of Fort Collins will recognize these hard working volunteers.

Colorado residents are inspired by the many dedicated citizens that donate their time to stewarding natural areas.  It takes many hands to provide beautiful, clean natural areas, free and engaging educational programs, well maintained trails and all the other wonderful elements of natural areas.  Volunteers in our community are rising to the challenge- thank you!

Fort Collins citizens love their natural areas; in fact, nearly 1,400 people demonstrated their love by volunteering in 2011. Involvement ranged from one day projects to year-round participation. City of Fort Collins Natural Areas Department volunteers generously contributed over 12,000 hours in 2011, an estimated value of $260,000.
The success of the Natural Areas Department depends on volunteers. They are extraordinary people who generously share their time and talents leading educational programs, assisting visitors on trails, serving as citizen scientists, helping with restoration efforts and more. The Natural Areas Department sincerely appreciates volunteers, thank you for making such a positive impact in our community!

Don’t Forget…. Anyone interested in getting involved as a volunteer is invited to the Natural Areas Volunteer Open House on Wednesday, February 22, from noon-1:30 p.m. at 215 North Mason Street, Community Room.  You will hear from active volunteers about why they love natural areas and learn about volunteer opportunities.  This is an informational session; no commitment to volunteer is required.  Refreshments provided.  Free, no registration necessary.
