Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area will be presenting Raptors and Rocks at the Scott Hut at Riverside Park on Saturday, April 23rd!SALIDA, Colorado – On Saturday, April 23rd from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA), in cooperation with the City of Salida Recreation Program, will present “Raptors and Rocks” at the Scout Hut at Riverside Park in Salida on E and Sackett Streets.

The “Enraptured by Raptors” program begins at 11:00 am.  The Raptor Center of Pueblo will exhibit live birds of prey native to the Upper Arkansas River Valley and share fascinating facts about these often-misunderstood creatures.

At 1:00 pm AHRA volunteer geologist Bob Hickey will present “Don’t Take All Rocks for Granite.”  Examine samples of the rocks and minerals found throughout the AHRA region, discover how they were formed and learn how to identify them as you explore the Arkansas River valley.

AHRA Program Assistant, Rose Bayless, is very excited to offer “Raptors and Rocks” in honor of Earth Day 2011.  The programs are educational and entertaining for all ages, and there is no charge to attend.  For more information call AHRA at 719-539-7289 or visit: http://parks.state.co.us/Parks/ArkansasHeadwaters/Pages/ArkansasHeadwatersHome.aspx

The AHRA is managed through a cooperative effort between Colorado State Parks and the Bureau of Land Management. Formed in 1989, this partnership allows agencies to provide visitors with recreation opportunities and care for significant natural resources of the Upper Arkansas River Valley.  For more information on Colorado State Parks or to purchase an annual pass online, visit www.parks.state.co.us.
